Basic Information |
To offer a course above grade 12 level, is of duration 6 months or longer, that leads to a qualification (having an equivalent in the Universities or Technicons), an organization must register with the department of education to offer a training program and SAQA must also accredit such a learning program. This may cost about R20,000 to R50,000. Alternately such an organization may become a Tuition Centre and do credit facilitation in a mentoring capacity for students to gain practical life experience and therefore build a portfolio that could be recognised for credits at a registered "(Private) Higher Educational Institute". CLT offers such an option to local Bible Schools. To register with CLT costs R100 per year as a contribution to the cost of monitoring the quality of the standards at the whole spectrum of Bible Schools. The information pack to become a TC costs R183.
To register for quality control, the institution (CLT) has to comply with regards to its quality control, tuition method, facilities, research method, teaching staff, its control bodies, the financial control and its capability to continue the supply of teaching material and its own operation for several years.
The syllabus is one of the most important aspects of a student's course direction. A dedicated body Christian Quality Assurance (CQA) was contracted to scrutinize the levels of the program, the credit allocation, the unit standards and the specific outcomes as well as the critical cross-field outcomes of the course. To explain this last sentence would take a couple of pages. See their website.
A further item up for scrutiny is the Method of Tuition. Tuition Centres registered with CLT follow a 5-phase method of mentoring as described in the Prospectus. Following this method, the student can justify the 120 RPL credits (each 10 national hours) he/she presents for RPL having completed the course.
A student can earn a certificate through RPL if his lecturer at the Tuition Centre has a Diploma and a Diploma if the lecturer has a Bachelor degree. CLT will in many cases be able to use the principle of Recognition of Prior Learning and through bridging course(s), advise to upgrade the qualifications of all lecturers in order to bring about a healthy balance of qualifications between students and contact lecturers.
At a later stage on an on-going basis, CQA will visit Tuition Centres to determine whether all the required committees, mechanisms, study material, qualifications and records of assessments are indeed in place.
Each Tuition Centre may in turn fall under this scrutiny. The registration certificate must be on display in a prominent place in the office and so should also be the certificate which is issued by CLT to each Tuition Centre be displayed just in case anyone walks into your Bible School. Students will also have more assurance when they see the legitimacy and accreditation of the courses.
CLT offers mentoring to students enrolled in learning programs. This mentoring is offered in a local Bible School. To comply with the requirements of the Department of Education CLT registers Bible Schools as a Tuition Centre and supplies a standard according to which the TC can operate.

Most of the points are further explained and are fairly flexible, including the following:
CQA then issues a three yearly renewable certificate which must be displayed in a prominent place in the local Church where the Bible School operates. The Bible School's name is given to the CQA who will display it on their website. CLT will also list the Bible School as a Tuition Centre on its Website on Internet and on other regularly published lists such as the "Yellow Pages".
The Bible School undertaking describes the role, character and method of a Tuition Centre. If these conditions are adhered to, the TC will enjoy continued three-yearly registration.
Broadly speaking CLT specializes in the fields of Christian Ministry and Church Management. This is offered mainly at an adult learning level. The management component is also offered to students who do not see themselves going into the full-time ministry.
