January Month-end Letter

Dear Pastor or Dean,

The year 2008 is the year of new beginnings. Many of your new students will experience a fuller life in Jesus and the richness of the blessings of God.

The New Church Life Curriculum

Since three years ago we started to develop the new combined curriculum. Since everyone is asking about accreditation, here is some good news. Accreditation only helps when you want to apply for continued studies in one of the universities (and 2007 sorted that one out, with the heresies and all) and if you want to work as a chaplain (our students become chaplains all the time, ask Pastor J.L. Tolamo, chaplain at the SANDF 073 059 3452 whose Formation Chaplain cleared out his CLT diplomas with SAQA). The Church life curriculum has something no theological qualification can give you: accredited skills. These skills actually give you a better position in your job and possibly an increase in salary or more job security.

We developed new modules and in a better combination (CLT = 47 credits, Bible Reading Books = 41 credits and Skills training = 32 credits):

  • Skills training will be provided: study skills and communication skills

Other e-features will change the face of our curriculum completely:

  • e-learning media on CD-ROM will form part of the curriculum
  • Lessons available in colourful pdf-format for laptop use only
  • Web pages are down-loaded per module on each topic (on CD)
  • WorkBooks are per lecture on the e-Learning CD
  • A test bank is provided from which the Web-tests will be compiled
  • PowerPoint presentations will be developed to summarize lectures
  • Audio in mp3 format will be provided for some of the lectures
  • Learning Guides will later accompany the Text Books

The start of e-Learning

Some time ago we coined the prophetic phrase: Mentor Centre utilizing Advanced e-Learning technology. This replaced the words Higher Education. At the moment this type of education in the universities is going down to a lower and lower level. But our mentored emphasis (very modern academic notion), practical experience (outcomes) and group discussion facilitation (social constructivist learning) is literally streets ahead of what the accredited academic world offers. When you see what we now produce on the e-learning CD, you will agree that it will take the others 20 years to catch up.

The new format A4 books are rapidly coming off the press and you can already order CHB 1, and 2 as well as BCB1 (Afr). DGR1 and BCB2 follow.

Development Levy

This is just a reminder that the development levy of 2% will be applied to all accounts on January 31st to all balances over R400.00. This means that new Bible Schools not having ordered anything (being new) will not receive the levy on their account. If you therefore pay your account on the next day, the 1st of February, you have already contributed to the development of the best Ministry curriculum in the world. We sincerely thank you for this contribution.

This does not mean that we condone the practice of owing money to anyone. Many Bible Schools pay immediately. They will not form part of the support group that contribute to a development levy. However, if a Bible School does not pay for 180 days (6 months) as some do, they will have had 12,6% added to their original account through the 2% addition every month.

Please fax a bank slip as proof of payment to 012 567 5550 so that Tracy can take the payment off the account. Failing to fax of the slip we will still administer the levy to your account. We will NOT remove this levy if you provide proof after the fact when we have already sent the statement out. This will cause a huge amount of administration, phone calls and re-calculations. Anyway, as the Bible says: "it is better to give than to receive." Thank you for the extra support, but please do not keep doing it. Rather pay the account.

Please Publish a Financial Policy

Remember last year, and every year before? Students (yes, they are Christians) do not like to pay. They want their books and qualification. They want to attend class and hear the lectures. Make these “wants” conditionally.

Register Students: Get their e-mail Address & ID

When you register students early this year, do remember to also ask for their e-mail address. We will be ready to register students on the web within a few months from now. Students who do not have an e-mail address must be made aware of googlemail (gmail) availability. We also need the ID number or for foreigners, their passport number.

Post-Graduate Study Group

Our 12-18 Friday of the month has been very popular. We have changed the day to Friday to help far-away students to plan for weekend visits. Apparently we are better than most other universities in our mentoring service, in that we actually help the student to understand what is expected, give examples and are available for tutoring when needed.

God Bless your Ministry in 2008
